Once again the opening of Trout Season on the last Saturday in April will bring throngs of anglers to the entire Eastern Sierra. Here in the June Lake Loop the Monster Trout Contest has been part of the celebration for many decades, and this year will be no exception. This year's prizes will be awarded in "June Bucks," which may be redeemed just like cash at participating June Lake Loop merchants and businesses (almost anywhere in town)! Each entered trout must be caught in a Loop creek or lake, then weighed and tagged at one of the local lakes' marinas, or at Ernie's Tackle downtown. The deadline for entries is 7:00pm on Saturday April 25, with the awards to be announced in front of Ernie's at 7:30. The fisherman entering the largest trout of the June Lake Loop will be awarded $250 June Bucks. Other prizes include $150 June Buckseach for the largest fish from each of the Loop's lakes, the largest trout from Rush Creek, and the heaviest stringer (must be legal and not overlimit). $100 June Bucks will be awarded for the biggest Trout of each species: Rainbow, Cutthroat and Brown. $75 June Bucks will be given to the winner in each of the following categories: biggest trout caught by a Local Resident, biggest trout caught by a child, biggest trout caught by a woman, and the Ugliest Trout entered. In addition to the June Bucks monetary prize, there will be a trophy awarded to each winner.
