June Lake Loop Chamber of Commerce News Highlights
November 24, 2013
JUNE MOUNTAIN PRESENTATION DECEMBER 4
As you probably know, June Mountain will be attracting more families by offering free passes to all children up to 12 years of age. This exciting offer will be the key promotion for the new season! Our mountain management has made plans to promote increased visitation, and will be at our December 4th Chamber meeting at 10:00am in the June Lake Community Center* to outline some details to business owners and residents of June Lake. In particular, Julie Brown will be on hand to present specifics on some great new ideas that will be implemented to support the children's program. Please be sure to attend, as we prepare to kick off our winter, so that you will have the latest information on this season's activities at 'June.'
As you may know, $10 of the proceeds from each of the Season Passes sold at the "Local's Pass Sale" on November 9, was donated by June Mountain to support the Chamber's efforts. On November 21, Carl Williams presented the June Lake Loop Chamber of Commerce with a check for $3780!
In addition, when the mountain opens on December 13, tickets will be only $10 for the day, and all ten dollars from each ticket sold will be donated to the Chamber. This is an unprecedented gesture of support for our town, and we heartily thank Carl and MMSA management for their generosity. Encourage as many as you can to purchase a ticket, visit June Mountain on opening day, and benefit the community of June Lake.
Remember to save the meeting date: December 4 at 10:00am! Everyone is invited, bring a friend.
* (regular Chamber meetings are usually the second Wednesday each month, but we moved December's meeting up one week to get ahead of the holiday rush).
CAC REVITALIZATION COMMITTEE TOMORROW
The Revitalization Committee of the June Lake CAC has called a meeting tomorrow Monday, November 25 at 10:00am, to discuss this winter's program of events which the Chamber will be asked to help sponsor.
Jeff Simpson from the Mono County Tourism office will be there to discuss what was done by them last year, and to provide some budget notes and other materials from that work.
All participants in organizing and operating last year's winter events are asked to please attend and participate. Any other interested parties are also encouraged. This meeting will be held at the Conference Room upstairs at Double Eagle's Creekside Spa.
JUNE LAKE ON INFOBOARD AT TIOGA GAS MART
Earl Harris, representative for InfoBoard and californiatravelcenter.com, has arranged for us to receive a deeply discounted advertising package through his company. The InfoBoard is located at the Tioga Gas Mart, a very popular stop for travelers at the junction of US 395 and Tioga Pass. A display ad produced by the Chamber will direct area visitors to the June Lake Loop. Each business member of the Chamber will be listed on this graphic, which includes a map of the Loop. There is also a telephone next to the InfoBoard, and all Lodging Locations who are business members of the Chamber will be provided with a 'direct line' link through that phone. The InfoBoard is a 24-hour display just outside of the store, and is accessible to anyone who stops there for gasoline even when the Store and Whoa Nellie Deli are closed.
This package also includes representation in the printed "Best of California" visitor guides which are distributed throughout the state, promotion on the californiatravelcenter.com website, and inclusion on touchscreen facilities which are located at other California Visitor centers.
EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM TO BE OFFERED BY CHAMBER
A challenge to any Chamber of Commerce is to provide valuable benefits to its members. Beyond assistance in promoting the community and its businesses to the public, a key value-added feature of membership can be in the provision of quality education and training for its businesses and their employees.
Unfortunately, the logistics of planning and organizing seminars and workshops can be daunting: choosing a topic and locating and hiring appropriate facilitators and speakers to lead sessions locally can be expensive and time consuming, especially here in a small town where experts must travel long distances to meet with us. Further, in today's fast-paced and busy world, it is difficult for us all to create space in our own schedules to attend such events.
One of the best solutions to this challenge is online education. Participants can choose their own topics and complete the courses at their own convenience.
Your June Lake Loop Chamber of Commerce will therefore take advantage of an opportunity to partner with Coggno, a leader in online education and training. Coggno offers thousands of intuitive web-based courses, including business management, use of social media, food safety, customer service, software skills, employee management for supervisors, and many more topics. The Chamber will launch its own internet-based training store, through which members can avail themselves of these reasonably priced courses through Coggno.
As an additional benefit and an introduction to their services, Coggno has agreed to provide a choice of one course, to each of our Chamber member companies, at no charge. There will also be an opportunity for the Chamber to offer a limited number of additional free courses during the first 30 days of our new program.
After using the free courses offered, a portion of the training fees received by Coggno will be returned back to the June Lake Loop Chamber of Commerce. Your participation will enrich not only you and/or your business, but also will contribute to the community.
Watch for the upcoming announcement when this new service is launched.
Wishing everyone a happy Thanksgiving this weekend,
--Dan
