Greetings to all,
With the arrival of spring, we are ready to look forward to another successful year in the Eastern Sierra.. As your June Lake Loop Chamber president I want take this opportunity to review the past year, and to offer thanks for all of the great efforts that have been put forth by you, the membership, to keep the June Lake Loop moving forward as a premiere resort town.
I am very proud of our Board of Directors along with all of the other committee members and volunteers who have worked tirelessly in our promotions and community activities. I want to give special mention to just a few key players, and regret that I will be unable to mention everyone who has contributed. This is a partial list:
-
John Logue and Jeremy Ross for heading the Monster Trout Contest, one of our longest standing events, along with Andrew Jones, John Frederickson and Tim Alpers for their promotion and support of the sport of fishing.
-
Karen O'Keefe for performing the Chamber's secretarial duties, and organizing the annual June Lake Loop Cleanup day.
-
Ralph Lockhart for his work including coordinating the publication of our annual Winter Brochure, liaison with Mono County Tourism, and spearheading the organization of the Winter Festival effort (which very unfortunately had to be canceled this year due to the lack of snow).
-
A very special thanks to Jerry Allendorf for his ongoing steady support in all of our projects, and his excellent leadership in maintaining and staffing our Visitor Center at the June Lake Junction Kiosk.
-
Jessalyn McCoy, who has done a great job coordinating our Street Banner program along the lightposts of Boulder Drive in downtown June Lake Village.
-
Don Morton, our treasurer, who keeps records, pays the bills, and staffed our sponsor booth at the June Lake Triathlon in July.
-
Carl Williams and the June Mountain management for generous contribution of proceeds from their season pass “locals” event and opening day ticket sales. Special thanks also for the elegant Chamber Mixer, hosted at the Chalet.
-
Our former events chairperson Patrick Ferguson, and his successor Sheila Thompson, for their various efforts in the production of special events. Our first annual Autumn Beer Festival, in particular, was a great success, also due to the assistance of Justin Walsh.
-
Laura Newland for her assistance with internet calendar postings and social media.
Full-page ads for the June Lake Loop appear in both the Mono County Visitor Guide and the Inyo Guide. We are placed on the “Infoboard” at Tioga Gas Mart with a map of the Loop and telephone links to all of our lodging members. We printed T-shirts and bumperstickers. We obtained advertising in Western Outdoor News and in the Ziplocal Yellow Pages. E-commerce and event registration capabilities were added to the Chamber website, as well as a business/employee training section. Our Facebook page continues to gain fans, with over 5.600 “likes” and counting.
Of course we want to do more, and we are always out to recruit new members and to involve more community-minded individuals. Our goal is to make the promotion of June Lake and the Eastern Sierra a fun activity, and as with any endeavor, the more folks who participate, the more fun it will be.
Our April Board meeting will be this Wednesday the 9th, and as always, anyone is welcome to sit in.
