Thanks, Patrick.  I personally feel that your approach would be most appropriate for this year's Monster Trout.  John and Jeremy have helped to sustain this event for the past few years and need to be recognized for their efforts.

As I stated at this month's meeting, I beleive that in-fighting and adversarial relationships within our community need to be quelled, as we all work together to move the June Lake Loop forward into a new time.  Whatever we, as the chamber,  can do to promote the trout contest in its current form will be good for this year.

Ideas (such as tagged fish, etc.) presented by members need to be considered,  but there is not enough time to implement them before April 27.  I hope that we can offer our support and assistance for this year's event and I appreciate your willingness to implement.  As chairman for events, this is within your realm of responsibility.

If everyone is agreeable, we should continue to make any plans to expand or enhance the event as appropriate, and hold them until next year.

Is there agreement from other board members on this?

Thank you,
--Dan

Hi Dan, I was planning on working with John Logue on the Monster Trout Contest if we still wish to work together on this. Or if Don has it covered then he can proceed how he feels best.
Thanks

Yes, Don.  You learned and reinforced for yourself the story of the Monster Trout Contesr, as Karen and I presented it during last week's meeting.

That is why I put it on the March agenda, because I also believe the Chamber should recover this event and sponsor it.  Thank you for your agreement.

I too will be more available to offer assistance as the date approaches.

Ralph, thanks for the update.on the movie premier, that could be an exciting event.

Cheers,

--Dan

Subject: Monster Trout / Movie Premiere at Minaret Cinema

Great ideas!  I am willing to help.  Let me know what I can do.

On another subject.  I spoke with Bill Whatley at Minaret Cinemas.  He is willing to do a Premiere.  The movie is slated for release to theaters on April 19th (I believe).  I also spoke with the location manager (Ken Haber) and he would be delighted to be here for the premiere.  I will work on this more in the next few days to develop more of the details.  We are hoping to charge a little extra for the privilege of going to the premiere.  The proceeds would benefit the June Lake Chamber of Commerce.

I may be missing a couple of names on this list. I did not use the mass mailing list as I thought we should all see what all are saying. Please add those names missing.

I’ve had meetings with John Logue, Cheri Bromberger and David Nadan (?) about the Monster Trout Contest.

John says the Chamber is just a sponsor to get their name on the banners. I have a flyer from last year with no mention of the Chamber. Jeremy will not be around until the beginning of April. John says he needs help to secure sponsors and gift donations, but has told nobody about it yet. Nothing has started yet. John says it isn’t a money maker and is done just to bring folks into the store.

Spoke with David next. He says the Monster Trout contest started as a Chamber event and raised money through raffle ticket sales. Then Jeremy took over. Jeremy would not account for the funds raised and supplied no real reports and seemed to be disorganized.

Then met with Cheri. She more or less said the same things as David. Both felt the contest changed when some out of town folks started cheating and we had to reduce the cash prizes. The event turned into an Ernie’s tackle promotion.

We all know that drawing more people into town, for any reason, helps all people in town.

I feel it will take a major effort by volunteers to “save” this year’s event. Just about 5 weeks left until the opener. We would need volunteers who love the event and want to participate. I also suggest, as in the past, we commission the prizes to be made by Ken Willingham.

Next year:

  • These are just ideas.
  • Ask past participants to help in the planning to take advantage of their experience with the pit falls.
  • Start planning now
  • Make it a Chamber event. Chamber volunteers, Chamber beneficiary of any profits, Chamber secure donations and sponsors
  • Sell entry tickets to a big dollars tagged fish event, must hold raffle ticket to be eligible. Fish must be checked into marina on Lake as soon as it is caught.
  • The Chamber purchases the insurance policy for the tagged fish
  • One tagged fish per lake in the loop. Buy 5-7 pound, healthy, full tailed fish to tag. Ones that can break off and be attractive to photograph if caught.
  • Bring Silver Lake Resort, Gary and Andrew Jones into the planning and other interested Marina operator
  • Sell raffle tickets for prize drawings, similar to Duck Unlimited events
  • If Ernie’s is agreeable, hold the drawing there,
  • Start promoting it after opener in any and all advertisement done by Chamber, Mono County
  • As I said, these are just some ideas, many of which Cheri and David suggested.
