June Mountain 2009 Promo Video

Promotional video of June Mountain, produced by Mono County Tourism in November 2009.

It should be noted that in ensuing years, the ski area has been re-branded as a "Family" resort, and no longer features a halfpipe or high-end built freestyle terrain.  However this video shows some great scenes and is interesting for its historical value.

the new website

Wow this is one of the biggest single projects I've undertaken yet, installing an enhanced version of the junelakechamber.com website on the new server, using a new Content Management System. 'Drupal' provides a truly more interactive, interesting and controllable site. It also has some optional addon modules and fixes to make it more search-engine-friendly, of which so far I have installed all but one of them that I know of. I need to wait until after I move it from development into public production which I hope will be within the next two days.

[Board Members] Chamber Board Meeting

Chamber Board:  if you can make it, we are calling a special meeting for tomorrow, Wednesday October 24, at 10:00am in the lobby of the Double Eagle Resort to discuss progress and recent developments.  It should be short, about an hour.  Sorry for the short notice.

Our next regularly scheduled meeting will be as usual in the June Lake Community center on Wednesday November 14.

Thanks,

Dan

[All Members, Friends and Contacts] FWD: Nov 1, 2012 - ESCRBC Broadband Forum

Mr. Roberts,

We were recently given your email in association with the June Lake Chamber of Commerce.  Next week’s Broadband Forum, held in the June Lake Community Center, could be important to your area, as we are focusing on internet and businesses.  Digital 395 will open opportunities for the eastern Sierra like never before.  We invite you to forward this email to all the businesses in your distribution list.  There is still time to reserve a place and take part in the presentations and workshops.

Best Regards,

[All Members, Friends and Contacts] June Lake Chamber Meeting Reminder

A regular board meeting of the June Lake Loop Chamber of Commerce is scheduled for this Wednesday November 14, at 10:00 am, in the "Blue Room" of the June Lake Community Building.

All chamber members and other parties interested in the objectives of the June Lake Loop Chamber of Commerce are invited to attend.

We will be discussing our ongoing activities as well as our potential involvement in this winter's events as planned by the June Lake Revitalization Committee.

[Board Members] Chamber Meeting

Sorry, I will not be able to attend this coming Wednesday’s Chamber meeting. Personal matters have me in Reno that day. I have attached the current bank balance to this e-mail.

The Women’s Club dropped a $1,000.00 check off to me this morning. Linda R. said it was at the request of Connie. It is supposed to be allocated for Winter Activities. This is all I know about it.

[All Members, Friends and Contacts] Meeting Update - agenda

It appears that there will not be a board quorum available for this Wednesday morning's meeting, so no actions requiring a vote will be immediately possible.  There are some progress reports and items of interest should you choose to attend.

Also, I have attached a copy of the 'Radio Spots' that have been planned for us to be played on KMMT.  Mono Tourism is asking for local feedback on these radio scripts.

[Board Members] Chamber Meeting

The regular meeting date for the June Lake Chamber of Commerce board is upcoming, this Wednesday, January 9 at 10:00 am in the June Lake Community Center (Blue Room).

I will prepare an agenda to cover updates from committees and progress on our projects.  If you have items you wish to be included please email them to me.

My apologies for personally being "out of the Loop" over the holiday period.  Snowboard instruction at Main Lodge in Mammoth has kept me busy dawn to dusk for the last fifteen days.

Happy New Year....

--Dan

[Board Members] Contract with Mono County for review

I am attaching a copy of the draft Contract with Mono County for funding of the winter events, forwarded to me by Alicia Vennos.  We each need to read and evaluate the contract for approval.  I have noted one correction:   that our correct legal name is June Lake Loop Chamber of Commerce.

The contract has been reviewed by Mono County Counsel as to form, and is awaiting approval by Risk Management.

Please review the contract and respond to this email with any comments, questions and concerns to be forwarded to the County.

Thanks,

--Dan

[Board Members] FWD: Please Review ASAP - June Lake Chamber Reimbursement Contract

Subject: RE: Please Review ASAP - June Lake Chamber Reimbursement Contract

Please help me understand and or clarify.

I have several questions and issues with the agreement/contract:

[All Members] Can we host this event? Please Read

Attention:  Lodging and Dining businesses

I receieved this inquiry from Gold Rush Adventure Racing, they hold an annual race in September and want to have it here in June Lake, with an awards banquet.  Would anyone be interested in offering Lodging (It may require participation by more than one property) and/or the Awards Banquet (the Banquet could possibly be catered at the Community Center)?

Here is a copy of the email that I received::

[Board Members] Cost of ad

I just got a bill from the mammoth times for $1438.00 for the Poker Rally adds. Is this also something the County will reimburse us for? Who placed it? Seems pricey and should be something they at least reduce the price on.

My personal feeling is the mammoth times is a perfect waste of trees and ink.

Can somebody clarify it for me?

[Board Members] RE: Monster Trout

Thanks, Patrick.  I personally feel that your approach would be most appropriate for this year's Monster Trout.  John and Jeremy have helped to sustain this event for the past few years and need to be recognized for their efforts.

As I stated at this month's meeting, I beleive that in-fighting and adversarial relationships within our community need to be quelled, as we all work together to move the June Lake Loop forward into a new time.  Whatever we, as the chamber,  can do to promote the trout contest in its current form will be good for this year.

[Board Members] RE: Triple Threat Funds

All who put forth effort to make this past winter's events successful are to  be congratulated and thanked.  There is no reason to be suspicious or accusatory at this time, regarding shortcomings in accounting.

It is true that the Chamber must act with diligence under the terms of the contract we signed with Mono County:  however, we must remember that this is a membership-based organization and as a board it is also our responsibility to represent and support all of our members as well as the community at large.

[All Members, Friends and Contacts] April 10 Meeting

The board of the June Lake Loop Chamber of Commerce will meet at the June Lake Community Center's "Blue Room" on Wednesday April 10, 1013 at 10:00 am.  This is an open meeting and all members as well as the entire community and interested parties are invited to attend.  Please come and get involved!

We have a full agenda this month as we prepare to launch the 2013 tourism season.  We'll be discussing this year's Monster Trout Contest on the first day of fishing, and the re-opening of our information kiosk at June Lake Junction.

[All Members, Friends and Contacts] Meeting and Upcoming Events

Hello,

Here are some bulletin items from the President's desk:

Monthly Meeting

Once again it is time for the regular business meeting of the June Lake Loop Chamber of Commerce, tomorrow Wednesday May 8, at 10:00 am, in the blue room of the June Lake Community Building.

We'll be discussing the upcoming season in the Eastern Sierra, including the High Sierra Triathlon Association's June Lake Triathlon, and the June Lake Loop Mountain Music Festival Association's event, both coming to the Loop in July.

[Board Members] Re: [Board Members] Autumn Fest Plan and Budget from Sheila Bell

Hi, I looked over the Plan and Budget for the event and like the time, date, and theme for it, how do we reserve the park for then?

Do we really need a Chili Cook-off AND a Pie Baking Contest? I think we should just focus on one(I vote for Pies).
Food, drink, and craft vendors - games, raffle, and bounce house - all good. The Beer Chugging...I'm not so sure about. Sounds a little dangerous.
I still want to have a photo contest element to the event. I believe it will produce some great images of the area that we can use to promote June Lake.

[All Members] FW: June Lake Visitors Guide Pages

Hi Chamber Members,

The 2013-14 Mono County Visitor Guide is in the making, and Alicia Vennos of Mono County Tourism Dept., has asked that the chamber provide our local input into how the June Lake section is composed.  Also, the Chamber will once again sponsor a full-page display ad on the back cover of the Mono County Visitor Guide.

(Please note that only members who have paid their current dues, will have their phone numbers displayed in the list of members on the back cover ad.  The editorial section inside the magazine, however, will include everyone.)

[All Members] Local Pass Promotion

Hello All,

I’m writing to you to get some feedback on a very exciting event that Mammoth would like us to put together. We all know the hardships we went through last season and to help give back to the community we would like to offer the locals of our area the 13-14 June Mountain Season Pass at a very reasonable price. This local’s sale would be at June Mountain hopefully coinciding with maybe a Fall Chamber mixer. Only those that physically show up will be eligible for the local’s discount. Here are the dates we are proposing:

[Board Members] President's statement re: Revitalization Committee

The June Lake Chamber of Commerce is a private, non-profit,
membership-based California Corporation. It has existed since 1961. We currently have a duly nominated and elected board of eight directors. We are a civic organization, and our primary responsibility is to conduct activities that benefit the entire community of June Lake
and the County of Mono, but with particular respect to our dues-paying membership.

[All Members, Friends and Contacts] Reminder: Come to the June Mountain Mixer tomorrow

REMINDER:

Come show community support for the June Mountain Ski Area, and enjoy an afternoon at the Chalet during the June Lake Loop Chamber of Commerce Mixer event tomorrow, January 16, 2014 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.

It looks as though it will be another beautiful sunny afternoon, and should be a great time to spend at the Mixer (although we would all probably rather see stormy weather about now...)

If you don't have a pass to ride Chair 1 up to the Chalet building, stop at the Ticket Office to obtain one.

[All Members, Friends and Contacts] reminder - save our post office -- meeting today

The US Postal Service will be meeting at the June Lake Post Office today at 1:00 pm.  They are considering a "discontinuance study" for our local post office, unless they can get support from 60% of local customers.

If you want to see our local post office continue to operate into the future, it is important to make an effort to attend this meeting.

[All Members, Friends and Contacts] update on Post Office Meeting

Due to support and positive response from the community, the June Lake Post Office will continue to remain open, with its current hours and dispatch times unchanged.

In a small town such as ours, the local Post Office continues to play a traditional role, acting as a hub for face-to-face meeting among the residents, and helping to maintain a sense of cohesion as a community.

Use it or lose it:  Let's all remember to use and support our local post office services in our own respective communities, to show that we value the services offered.  Keep it local.

[All Members] December Meeting Change

Hope you have been enjoying the warm weather of the New Year!  With the Holiday season behind us we approach mid-winter, carrying hope that we will soon receive more snowfall.

In the meantime, June Mountain has invited us to a Chamber Mixer at the Chalet on Thursday January 29, from 2-4 pm.

I hope that everyone can join us to visit with our fellow community members, perhaps we can conduct a 'snow dance,' as we discuss upcoming chamber plans and events.

[All Members, Friends and Contacts] June Mountain Shuttle this Weekend

[Board Members] Board Meeting Cancellation/Postponement

As it seems we will not have a quorum for our board meeting at the regular date tomorrow June 14, and I also have some business obligations to meet, I would like to cancel and reschedule this month's meeting for next week: Tuesday May 20.  I hope this is not too much of an inconvenience, also Alana Levin will have brought me a sample of the tote bag for the Triathlon on Sunday, so that we can all have a look at it (she says she is pleased wioth the way they came out).

Thanks,

Eastern Sierra Transit Authority Free Shuttle

Dear June Lake Chamber Members,

Thanks again to those of you who have stepped up and contributed to ESTA this summer to make the shuttle free for all riders. We have raised $2,050 in donations from our community businesses. I appreciate your support very much.

We are short just $600 to make the required $2650 contribution for the summer. I am asking those of you who have not contributed to make a donation of $100 to $200 to get us to our goal.

Checks can be made out to Eastern Sierra Transit Authority, with a note stating "June Lake Free Shuttle".

Chamber of Commerce Recreation Funds Survey

The Mono County Board of Supervisors is currently planning their budget year. As Mono County's largest transit occupancy tax (TOT) contributor (June Lake contributes 57%), the Chamber Board would like your input on how to allocate expenses. The results of this survey will be shared with the Board of Supervisors prior to their final budget meeting.

The survey will only take a couple of minutes to complete.
We would appreciate it if you complete it by next Monday, August 21st.

American Flags on Main Street

HI all,

I have been gone for most of the summer off and on and just returned last night. There is some concern about who is responsible for the American flags that have been hung on the light poles on the main street. I don't even know when they were put up. What Ido know is that this was not done by the JL Chamber nor was it done by the Fire Dept.  Does anyone know who put them up? They really need to be taken down since they are not in good condition.

Thanks in advance for any information we can get on them.

General Membership Meeting Rescheduled for 10/23

HI all,

Sorry for any inconvenience.
We have extended the time to submit applications to serve on the board.  The short form is located at:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/JLLCOC19

Special Presentation at Community Advisory Committee Mtg 12/4/19

HI All,

At the Mono County Economic Development and Tourism commission meeting this month,  the commission was briefed on the Whitebark Pine restoration project happening at June Mountain. The commission found the presentation to be very informative.  Sarah Walsh, our local commissioner, believes it would be beneficial to have more local awareness and support regarding their project.  Not only the amount of time, money and effort going into this project, but the potential safety concerns in the wilderness area just beyond their current work zone.

Updates for Mono County and the Loop Re: COVID-19

Hello Fellow June Lake Loop Community Members,

We held our Chamber board meeting last night (via teleconference) and thought it would be prudent to send out an email with some resources that may be helpful as we go through this crisis together. As of 6 pm on March 18, there are no confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus. JLLCOC Board Vacancy

Hi All,

I hope this finds you safe and well and I appreciate how hard the community is working to have a successful summer with the challenges of maintaining the public health requirements.

Recently, we received the resignation of board member Mitch McMullen. We appreciate all he has done to support and promote our business community, in particular coordinating and hosting the Chamber Fishing Summit last year and establishing and  growing  our @junelakeloop Instagram, which now has over 8700 followers.

Possible Hacked Email

HI all,

I just received an email that appeared to be sent from admin@junelakeloop.org with a zip attachment ithat in my case said "complaint".  I started to open it and it was acting strangely so I deleted it and emptied my trash.   Since then, 2 people have contacted me regarding a similar email.  I have reached out to Dan to have him investigate.  PLEASE DO NOT OPEN AND PLEASE DELETE IT!  To my knowledge it was not sent by anyone with the chamber.

Thank you,
Janet

Welcome to June Lake California

"The Eastern Sierra's Original Resort Community"

Along the southernmost rim of the Mono Basin, California State Route 158 loops away from U.S. Highway 395 for 16 miles, then returns. It follows a horseshoe shaped canyon containing four lakes, surrounded by a dramatic mountainous backdrop. Autumn in June Lake

Autumn is one of the most pleasant times of the year in the Eastern Sierra. The air is clear, mornings are crisp and cool, and the groves of deciduous trees, primarily Aspen, take on spectacular hues of gold and red.

Mono Lake

ImageIf you take a hike to higher elevations anywhere around the June Lake Loop, or if in wintertime you are skiing or snowboarding June Mountain, chances are you will catch a view of Mono Lake to the north.  Mono Lake is also visible as are you traveling around the June Lake Loop Road, just north of Grant Lake.

June Lake Welcomes You

June Lake, California is the place you want to be --ever since a number of workers migrated from the gold mines of Bodie to the June Lake Loop to construct the Rush Creek Hydroelectric Project in 1915.   That was when power company employee Roy Carson started his fishing camp on Silver Lake.

In those old days the local Native Tribes would of course be in the Loop as well during the summer, participating in trade days and celebrations with all in the area.

Shortly thereafter, with the advent of mass-produced automobiles, June Lake became a favorite destination for motor touring, with its unparalleled scenic value and proximity to the newly-completed Tioga Pass Road in Yosemite National Park.  A number of dignitaries and notable Hollywood figures established themselves as  June Lake Loop residents for the summer months each year.

Skiing and winter activities have also been available since the mid-1930's.  The June Mountain Ski Area is well-known as a family friendly resort with a wide variety of terrain for all ages and abilities.

Creekside Corner at Double Eagle

June Lake is a beautiful experience in the fall, as our aspen groves change to brilliant hues of gold and red.  Mid-October has brought spectacular displays of peak autumn colors, and with the Federal Government Shutdown having ended, facilities such as Yosemite National Park and Devil's Postpile National Monument, have re-opened.

Lee Vining Canyon and Tioga Pass

Going north from the June Lake Loop, follow California State Route 120 westbound toward Yosemite National Park.  It is about fifteen minutes to Lee Vining Canyon.  It is said that Leroy Vining established a ranch in this canyon, as he and others were prospecting for gold nearby, circa 1852.  The town which also bears his name was founded quite a few years later, and he did not ever reside there.  In 1924 a high-head hydroelectrc project was constructed, and  the Tioga Road, which traverses the northern canyon wall

Places To Stay

People have been coming to stay and enjoy the June Lake Loop for centuries.  The first visitors were the Native American Kuzadika and Miwok who used the Mono Pass as a trade route between the Mono country and Yosemite Valley.  Migrants discovered the Loop during California's mining days when thriving communities were established in the Mono Basin and the nearby Bodie Hills.

The Eastern Sierra is a geothermally active area, and there are numerous hot springs.  Many of these locations are protected for their natural value, located on private property, or may be very hot and unstable, and thus are unsuitable for swimming or bathing.  A number of  locations are available. however, where the waters may be enjoyed by swimmers and  hot-pool soaking enthusiasts for their healing and therapeutic qualities, in the grandeur of our high mountain environment.  Here's a synopsis of some of the locations of hot springs and fumaroles in the area.

Could 2019 be the last “Fishmas”?

For many decades, the last Saturday in April has been the day that the State of California’s trout fishing season opened in the Eastern Sierra. It is an unofficial holiday, where traditionally thousands of visitors arrive to help kick off the season, looking forward to the Summer. Local merchants have anticipated the Trout Opener each year as a busy tourist weekend, helping to sustain their businesses until the peak season of July and August, when folks enjoy their summer vacations. That tradition may be coming to an end.
